Unity Garden...Cultivating an end to hunger
We can make a difference for hungry children in our community. Hunger affects one in four children in Johnson County. Upcoming work days - February 25 and March 3, 9 to noon - It's time to work in the garden! We will work on our high tunnel, build planting benches and get our barn organized for spring. There's plenty to do and all skill levels are welcome. We might even have a bonfire! Bring your favorite gardening/building tools (rakes, shovel, hammers, drills, etc) and let's get dirty.

Christmas: Share the Joy – Sharing holiday gifts with agencies of the Greater Kansas City area including Hope Center, Marty Lane House, KVC, Cornerstones of Care and our own Unity Church of Overland Park families in need. For more information about Share the Joy contact Marci Wagner-Heaton.
C.O.P.P. – Care of Poor People – Assisting the poor and homeless through Survival Events, held in around Easter and Christmas by giving out the warm clothing and the materials that the poor and homeless need to survive the winter. Pack-a-Backpack - Summer Outreach program - held annually in the summer, filling backpacks with all the supplies they need for a joyful start for the school year. Backpacks are distributed to individuals through the following helping agencies: Community Linc, Restart Inc, Safehome, St Vincent’s and our own spiritual community.
Kansas City AIDS Walk – This annual event held in early Spring provides funding to local AIDS service organizations including: Good Samaritan Project, SAVE Inc, Hope Care Center and Kansas City Free Health Clinic.
Renovate to Elevate - Have you worked on a Habitat for Humanity home? Have you cooked a meal for someone? Have you worked with hammers and other tools? If you said yes, we are looking for you!
Easter Basket – Providing Easter baskets for senior citizens, foster children or AIDS patients.
2012 Easter Basket community service begins soon! Be part of the core team to plan and prepare Easter tag preparation February 26. Adopt individuals for Easter on March 4, 11 and 18. Baskets due back on March 25. If interested in volunteering on the core team, please contact Team Leaders Pam Wagner and Jason Haney at easter@ucop.org.
Harvesters Community Food Network – Collecting donations of non-perishable food items and household products to support our community. Items are distributed Harvesters to the community through 550 agencies. Collections taken during the week and on Sundays. www.harvesters.org.
Women's Group Giving Christmas Tree - Collecting new scarves, hats, mittens, gloves, pajamas and new underwear on the tree during the Christmas holiday for women and children staying at SafeHome, a domestic abuse shelter.
