Weddings at Unity Church of Overland Park are personal, special and hassle free. Anyone, regardless of ethnicity, sexual preference or religious / spiritual background, may have a service or reception in our church. We offer traditional ceremonies, family services, Holy Union ceremonies or re-statement of vows. photos
Personalized Ceremonies
Let our experienced wedding staff help you make your special day peaceful and worry free. We offer a wide range of ceremony styles from multi-cultural services to stand up services in a minister’s office. There are no requirements to have your wedding in our facility. You may choose to use your own minister or one of ours. Couples can write their own services or vows, use a standardized service or our ministers will help you design a service that fits your specific needs. We do not have set times for our services or rehearsals which mean you can reserve any time slot that is available on our calendar. You can also bring your own minister if you chose to do so. Our guidelines are for the safety of you and your guests or to protect our facility.
Guest Accommodations - We can accommodate ceremonies with up to 750 guests in our sanctuary to a simple stand up wedding on our bridge with just the two of you and your two witnesses.
Photography & Florist - You may use a photographer and florist of your choice and we can offer you suggestions.
Vocalists / Musicians - Most of the vocalists and musicians who perform on Sundays in our church are also available to sing at weddings. There are no music restrictions. If you use our pianist he will provide pre-seating music; play all the music for your ceremony including practicing with soloists beforehand, and recessional music until your guests have exited.
Facilities
Sanctuary - Our main sanctuary features a long middle aisle, raised platform with stairs and beautiful stone background and lighted trees. There is plenty of room for candelabras, unity candle tables, flowers and the bridal party. There are side aisles for easy guest seating. A grand piano is available and/or our sound engineer will play the music of your choice during your ceremony.
Peace Chapel - We also have a smaller chapel that will hold 50 people for smaller, more intimate services. This beautiful chapel allows you adjust the seating arrangement as you desire. Includes flowing material background and lighted trees.
Outdoor weddings - Outdoor standing weddings are available for parties of up to 20. Our wooden bridge can hold the bride, groom and attendants while guests gather around it.
Bride's Room - The large bride’s room is conveniently located near the sanctuary, chapel and outdoor exit. It has its own bathroom, temperature control and long mirror to make getting ready easy and fun.
Parking - We have ample parking and a circular drive which allows easy access to our church for the bridal party, vendors and guests. Our covered portico makes a perfect spot for “get away” pictures regardless of the weather. The beautiful lush green grounds allows for outdoor pictures without going to a second location. We have a bridge which is a favorite spot of photographers.
Reception & Rehearsal Dinner Facilities
Our newly painted and carpeted reception hall holds up to 175 people with a dance area and 200 people with no dance area. We can also create a smaller room using wall partitions for intimate receptions or rehearsal dinners. There are two sets of restrooms on each side of the hall which helps eliminate long lines.
Caterer - You may use a caterer of your choice. Alcohol may be served with some restrictions. Our roomy kitchen has a commercial refrigerator and a deep freeze to store food, drinks and ice.
